AUXETIC SPORTS BRA

Auxetic cut patterns allow material to expand at a much higher ratio than it would on its own (negative Poisson’s ratio). The ‘Auxetic Sports Bra’ uses concentrated auxetic cuts to define varying levels of support for a new kind of ‘encapsulation’ sports bra. I utilized the rigidity of neoprene to remain supportive where necessary and stretch where the cuts are strategically placed.

Compiled visual anatomy research from talking to anatomists and watching online interviews of women of all sizes. The sketches shows the three most supportive parts of the breast and the three areas that provide the most support on a bra (the straps, back, and band).
